Google's "Blogger" Gets Hacked

Further to my post last week Hackers Intrude on Social Communities, yesterday Google reported that their blogging service "Blogger" was hacked.

About that Fake Post

A bug in Blogger enabled an unauthorized user to make a fake post on the Google Blog last night, claiming that we've discontinued our AdWords click-to-call test. The bug was fixed quickly and the post removed. As for the click-to-call test, it is progressing on schedule, and we're pleased with the results thus far.

Over the next two years, all types of participatory media will be victimized by hacks -- some will be annoying; most will be increasingly deceptive and damaging. Spam, phishing, denial of service, viruses and other malware have not stopped people from using email or instant messaging. The security vendors have yet to seriously focus attention on participatory media. However, I predict that we'll see first-generation software by 2Q07.

Just like in the physical world, the virtual world has "bad guys." It's unfortunate, but does not need to be crippling.
